Sun Safety

Did you know August is Summer Sun Safety Month?

Sun Safety is a very important topic because a lot of people don’t often take it seriously! Going outside is very good for us as the sun provides us with natural Vitamin D, but if our skin is not properly protected, too much UV exposure can cause skin cancer.

What are UV rays?

UV rays are an invisible kind of radiation that comes of the sun and even tanning beds.

Important Fact:

UV Rays don’t just affect us in the summer. According to the CDC, “the sun’s UV rays can reach you on cloudy and cool days, and they reflect off of surfaces like water, cement, sand, and snow.”

Making sure we are wearing sunscreen, wearing proper clothing, and staying in the shade when needed, is important to protecting our skin.

Skin Cancer isn’t something to play around with. It is serious and can result in needing to get cancer spots removed every so often or very frequently. The CDC states that, “an examination of Medical Expenditure Panel Survey data suggests that each year, about 6.1 million adults are treated for basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas at a cost of about $8.9 billion.” This is a disease that millions of people are having to battle every day. So, be safe and protect your skin!
