September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month! This month is a month to remember those that have been lost, support those who have considered or attempted suicide, and educate the public on prevention. Suicide is not something that just affects those you see on the news or on social media, it affects people right here in Tennessee.
According to the TN Department of Health, Suicidal ideation among Tennesseans from 2017-2021 between the ages of 10 and 17 increased from 718 per 100,000 population to 1,150 per 100,000 population. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal ideation or mental health struggles please reach out to someone you trust as well as 988. 988 is a 24/7 Suicide and Crisis Hotline. It is a free service where you can call, text, or chat. 988 provides judgement free and confidential care and is a great resource for anyone seeking help!
