May 1st marked the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month! This month is used to break stigma, build understanding, and create hope and healing for others. A lot of times we think that people dealing with Mental Health Struggles are far in proximity to us, but a lot of people struggle in our close communities. According to the 2021 Fact Sheet that came out by NAMI, “937,000 adults in Tennessee have a Mental Health Condition.” A lot of people are struggling just in our State alone, but according to the same NAMI report, “1 in 5 U.S. Adults experience Mental Illness each year.” Mental Health Struggles are not just a problem our Country is facing, but it’s a true epidemic.
If you or someone you know is struggling, step up and speak out! There are many services available, whether that be professional counselors in your area or the 988 Hotline. You are not alone!
